The New York Times reported that Mark Wayne Mullin, the U.S. Homeland Security secretary, said he did a “dance of joy” after Iran’s national team was eliminated in the group stage of the 2026 World Cup.
According to the newspaper, he added at a Monday press conference related to the World Cup that he was happy to see the Iranian team’s campaign come to an end and said he may have even sung “a few songs.”
Mullin also made remarks that drew wide attention, referring to the Iranian team’s visas and their departure from U.S. territory.
The comments came as reactions continued over the American official’s mocking tone toward Iran’s national team.
