At the same time as the funeral procession for Ali Khamenei was held at Tehran’s Musalla, a number of commanders and senior officials of the Islamic Republic’s military appeared at the ceremony in pre-arranged groups; however, the absence of some recognized military figures also drew attention. Among the commanders present, Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, drew the most attention after Khakpour was killed in the first hours of the 40-day war. Names such as Ali Abdollahi, commander of the Central Headquarters of Khatam al-Anbiya, Amir Hatami, the commander of the army, Ahmad Reza Radan, commander of the national police force, Majeed Ibn al-Ridha, head of the Ministry of Defense, and Habibollah Sayyari, chief of staff and deputy for army coordination, were also seen.
