🔶 A heavy defeat for Trump: The Supreme Court upheld the right to citizenship by birth The U.S. Supreme Court declared that a U.S. executive order issued by Donald Trump, the president of the United States, limiting citizenship by birth on U.S. soil is unconstitutional by a vote of 6 to 3. With this ruling, the U.S. president suffered another major legal defeat. Announced on Tuesday, June 30, the decision confirms an interpretation of more than a century of the Fourteenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution—an interpretation under which nearly every baby born on U.S. soil automatically receives U.S. citizenship. In the first day of his second term as president, Trump had issued an executive order stating that the children of people who are residing in the United States unlawfully or temporarily would no longer be considered U.S. citizens.
