🔶 Reuters: Iran is negotiating with Japanese companies to resume oil sales According to Reuters, on Friday, 12 Tir (July 3), citing three Iranian and Western sources, the Islamic Republic has begun negotiations with Japanese companies to resume oil sales. The talks are based on a U.S. sanctions waiver that allows Iran to restart oil sales. The waiver is part of a “60-day ceasefire for peace” between Tehran and Washington, issued on June 22 and valid until August 21. According to Reuters sources, the likely Japanese buyers want to extend this waiver and receive guarantees regarding the security of the ships. So far, Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the U.S. Treasury Department have not responded to Reuters’ request for comment on this report. Japan, South Korea, India, and European countries stopped buying oil from Iran after the escalation of U.S. sanctions following Donald Trump’s withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal in 2018. In recent years, China has been the main buyer of Iran’s oil.
