Node.js

JavaScript on the server.

Node.js runs JavaScript outside the browser: on servers, in command-line tools and in the build tools you use every day. This track takes you from your first node command to a tested, secure JSON API: modern ES modules and npm, the event loop and worker threads, files and streams, HTTP servers with node:http and Express 5, validation, errors and logging, the built-in test runner, TypeScript with no build step, and deployment.

You already know JavaScript. Here you learn to run it where the data lives.

What you'll be able to do

  • Set up modern projects with ES modules, npm scripts and Node's built-in modules
  • Explain the event loop and keep it free with async I/O and worker threads
  • Read, write and stream files safely, even huge ones
  • Build a REST JSON API with Express 5, validation and central error handling
  • Test with node:test, run TypeScript directly and ship to production with Docker
