MySQL

The web's most deployed open-source database.

MySQL is the open-source database behind WordPress, countless PHP and Laravel apps, and some of the largest sites on the web. You already speak SQL from the SQL track, so this course maps what you know onto MySQL 8.4 LTS and shows where it differs from PostgreSQL: the mysql client, data types, utf8mb4 for Persian text and emoji, InnoDB and its clustered primary key, EXPLAIN, transactions under REPEATABLE READ, upserts with ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE, least-privilege users and backups you can actually restore.

Every lesson is short and practical, and the result sets stay tiny, so you can check every answer by eye.

What you'll be able to do

  • Connect with the mysql client and find your way around databases and tables
  • Translate PostgreSQL habits into MySQL: AUTO_INCREMENT, booleans, DATETIME and TIMESTAMP
  • Store Persian text and emoji safely with utf8mb4
  • Read EXPLAIN and design indexes around InnoDB's clustered primary key
  • Use transactions and INSERT ... ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE correctly
  • Create least-privilege users and take backups you can restore
