The U.S. Navy intercepted and destroyed a drone launched from Yemen over the Red Sea on Thursday evening, according to U.S. Central Command. Officials said the aircraft was tracked and shot down by the USS Eisenhower, and no damage or injuries were reported.
The incident comes as attacks tied to Yemen’s war continue to disrupt one of the world’s busiest shipping routes. Commercial vessels have faced repeated threats in the Red Sea, raising security risks for crews, insurers, and global trade flows.
Washington has repeatedly blamed the Houthi movement for drone and missile attacks on ships and regional targets. The group says its operations are aimed at pressuring foreign powers, but the strikes have heightened concern about civilian safety and maritime stability.
The latest interception underscores how the conflict in Yemen continues to spill beyond its borders, with the Red Sea remaining a flashpoint for military confrontation and economic disruption.
