According to Israel’s Channel 12, the country’s officials estimate that the Peace Council will announce that Hamas has violated the agreement within the next two to three months. This move could pave the way for the resumption of Israel’s military operations in areas under Hamas control. A political official told Channel 12: “Nikolai Mladenov, the UN special envoy in the Middle East peace process, also intended to declare Hamas to have violated the agreement about two months ago, but at the request of mediators, this decision was postponed to allow more time for the agreement to be implemented.” Based on this report, if there is no change in Hamas’s behavior by September, the Peace Council may declare Hamas to have violated the agreement, and as a result, the scope of Israel’s military operations in the Gaza Strip could expand.
