The secretary of the country’s Aging Council announced that Iran is among the five countries with the highest speed of population aging and that by 1430, one-third of Iran’s population will be elderly. Javad Hashemi, stating that if a society has more than 27 percent of its population over 60 years old, that population is considered “severely aged,” said that they are currently moving into aging and that by 1430 it will be considered one of the severely aged countries. He called the year 1420 a turning point in the population crisis and announced that from then onward, the number of young people in Iran will be less than the number of elderly people, and that this is an unprecedented crisis.
