Mohammad Taha Ahmed, head of the Supreme Electoral Committee of the Syrian parliament, announced today, Wednesday, July 1 (Tir 10) in a press conference in Damascus that the country’s parliament will hold its first session next Monday. The names of the 70 representatives appointed by Ahmed al-Sharaa, the head of Syria’s interim president, were also published. In the October elections, largely Sunni-conservative forces and tribal leaders appeared as the winners, while the share of women and ethnic and religious minorities remained small.
