🔶 Warning from the commander of the Khatam garrison about possible attacks during the days of holding the Khamenei funeral ceremony Ali Abdollahi, commander of the central Khatam al-Anbiya garrison, in a statement published in Iran’s domestic media, warned about any attack on Iranian soil during the funeral ceremony of Ali Khamenei. Abdollahi warned the United States and Israel and their “regional and trans-regional allies,” telling them to “avoid any miscalculation” and to “think about harsh and regret-inducing responses.” The funeral ceremony for Ali Khamenei, the former leader of the Islamic Republic who was killed on the first day of the United States and Israel’s attack on Iran, will begin in Tehran on Saturday, 13 Tir (4 July) and will end on 18 Tir (9 July) with his burial in his hometown of Mashhad. Between these two dates, other ceremonies have also been scheduled in Qom and Iraq. On Wednesday, 10 Tir (1 July), Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araqchi, also issued a similar warning and said that Tehran would respond immediately and with force if any threat were made against its people or its leaders. The remarks came in response to comments by Israel’s defense minister, Yoav Gallant, who said that Mojtaba Khamenei, the current leader of Iran, “is on a list of targets for assassination.” Iranian media have also reported an intensification of security measures during the funeral ceremonies. Iran’s civil aviation organization head also announced that temporary restrictions would be imposed in the airspace over several cities, including Tehran and Mashhad.
