Donald Trump, the President of the United States, claimed at a ceremony marking the anniversary of U.S. independence that after the killing of Ali Khamenei, the former leader, Washington has given the Islamic Republic a week to hold mourning ceremonies, after which negotiations between the two sides will resume. Trump also said that the Islamic Republic no longer has the “effective leadership” and the former military capability, and for that reason, according to him, the Middle East is “for the first time in thousands of years” on the verge of peace.
