Taiwan’s defence ministry said on Sunday that it detected Chinese military activity around the island over the previous 24 hours. The ministry said it tracked 18 aircraft and 10 naval vessels in the area up to 6 a.m. local time.
The report comes amid continued tensions across the Taiwan Strait, where Beijing has stepped up pressure on Taipei through military patrols and drills. Taiwan regularly publishes these counts as part of its daily monitoring of Chinese forces near the island.
The ministry did not immediately report any unusual incident beyond the movements it logged. Such activity has become a routine feature of the standoff between Taiwan and China, though it keeps regional security officials on alert.
Taipei continues to strengthen its defenses as Chinese military operations near the island remain a persistent source of friction in the Asia-Pacific region.
