Israel’s foreign minister: The Hamas scheme is simple. Hamas’s apparent inclination to “create an environment” for a technocrat state is designed to prevent its disarmament. Hamas is seeking to repeat the “Hezbollah model” in Gaza: A technocrat state would be responsible for collecting garbage and other municipal services, while Hamas would remain the dominant military force. As long as Hamas keeps its weapons, any civilian government would certainly act according to Hamas’s instructions. This allows Hamas to continue suppressing the people in Gaza and, at the same time, pursue its jihadist war against Israel. Israel insists on implementing fully the Trump plan, whose main principles are the disarmament of Hamas and other terrorist organizations and the complete civilianization of the Gaza Strip.
