The deputy for electricity and energy at the Ministry of Energy says that, following damage to power plants of petrochemical industries during the course of the war, negotiations have begun to supply electricity to this sector via the route through Turkey. According to a report by the state information website, Mustafa Rezaei Mashhadi left for Turkey on Thursday. Energy Institute figures show that Turkey’s electricity generation grew four times as fast as Iran’s last year. Official data from Turkey itself indicates that last year it exported 3.2 terawatt-hours of electricity, which is equivalent to less than one percent of Iran’s electricity consumption. While Iran’s electricity consumption grows by 7% annually, last year electricity generation grew by only 1%. Rezaei Mashhadi says that transmitting electricity at a capacity of 450 megawatts through the “Khowy–Van” transmission line is on the agenda for the negotiations.
