🔶 During a trip to Beirut, Syria’s foreign minister emphasized Damascus will not intervene militarily in Lebanon On Thursday, July 2 (11 Tir), the Lebanese Presidency announced that Asaad al-Shibani, Syria’s foreign minister, had assured Joseph Aoun, the President of Lebanon, that despite U.S. pressures, Damascus has no intention to intervene militarily in Lebanon. During his visit to Beirut, Shibani also invited Joseph Aoun to travel to Syria and, for the first time, met Nabih Berri, the speaker of Lebanon’s parliament and an ally of Hezbollah. Donald Trump, the President of the United States, has repeatedly said that Syria could “settle Hezbollah’s fate” and has criticized Israel’s strategy in the war against this Iran-backed group. However, Ahmed al-Sharaa, the president of Syria, who came to power after the ouster of Bashar al-Assad in December 2024, had previously emphasized that he has no intention of intervening in Lebanon or reopening old wounds.
