President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Turkey will keep carrying out military operations against the Kurdistan Workers Party, or PKK, in northern Iraq and Syria. His remarks signaled that Ankara intends to maintain pressure on the armed group across the border despite the regional strain such operations can create.
Turkey has long described the PKK as a security threat and has repeatedly launched strikes and ground raids in neighboring territory. Those campaigns have also raised concerns about the impact on civilians living in border areas, where military activity can disrupt daily life and heighten instability.
Erdogan framed the operations as part of a continued fight against terrorism. The latest comments suggest no immediate shift in Turkey’s approach, with security policy remaining central to Ankara’s posture in both Iraq and Syria.
The issue remains deeply tied to regional tensions, as cross-border operations affect not only armed groups but also communities already living under conflict, displacement, and economic hardship.
