The United Nations Security Council has approved a resolution to create an international mechanism to monitor the Gaza ceasefire, marking a new effort to help keep the truce in place. The measure was adopted as member states pressed for steps to reduce the risk of renewed fighting.
The resolution also calls for faster humanitarian access into Gaza, where civilians have faced severe shortages and widespread damage after months of conflict. Supporters of the plan say monitoring is needed to improve compliance and give aid agencies a better chance to operate safely.
Along with the monitoring framework, the council urged de-escalation by the parties involved. Diplomats said the goal is to reduce violence, stabilize the situation on the ground, and create conditions for sustained relief delivery.
The vote reflects continued international concern over the humanitarian toll in Gaza and the fragility of any ceasefire arrangement. While the resolution does not end the conflict, it adds diplomatic pressure for restraint and accountability as talks continue.
