Bloomberg reported that India has reached an agreement with the United Arab Emirates to store up to 30 million barrels of oil in strategic reserves.
The move comes amid concerns about disruptions caused by war and the possible closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a passage through which about 40 percent of India’s imported crude oil flows.
According to the report, India also plans to expand storage capacity for natural gas and LPG for the first time.
India meets about 85 percent of its oil needs through imports, and the agreement could reduce part of the country’s energy vulnerability.
