European lawmakers and member states have reached a provisional agreement on how the bloc will enforce its landmark AI Act, according to Reuters. The deal outlines a supervisory structure meant to help police compliance as the EU prepares to put its new artificial intelligence rules into practice.
Under the plan, a new AI Office will help coordinate oversight at the EU level, while national authorities will be responsible for monitoring firms in their own countries. The arrangement is designed to give regulators clearer tools to assess whether companies are meeting the requirements set out in the law.
The AI Act is one of the world’s most significant attempts to regulate artificial intelligence, with a focus on transparency, safety, and accountability. The enforcement framework is a key step toward turning the law from policy into practice across the 27-nation bloc.
The provisional deal still needs to move through the remaining formal steps before it becomes final, but it marks an important milestone in Europe’s effort to shape the rules for fast-growing AI systems.
