The U.S. president says he has instructed Scott Bessent, the Treasury secretary, to completely halt trade with Spain. Donald Trump, who traveled to Turkey to attend the NATO summit, called Spain a “terrible partner” in NATO. In the early weeks of the joint military operations by the United States and Israel against the Islamic Republic in March, Spain limited the U.S. use of joint military bases on its soil and closed its airspace to American fighter jets involved in the war. U.S. Census Bureau data shows that the country had about $48 billion in bilateral trade with Spain last year. In the first five months of this year, the figure reached $18.5 billion, which is 9% less than the same period last year.
