The funeral prayer (salat al-mayyit) for Ali Khamenei was held on Saturday morning at Tehran’s Mosalla, and a notable point was the absence of some senior political and religious officials of the government. Among those absent were the three former Iranian presidents, Mohammad Khatami, Hassan Rouhani, and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Also absent was Mir-Hossein Mousavi, who served as prime minister during the Iran–Iraq war and has been held in house arrest for years. In addition, Iranian media also pointed to the absence of Ahmad Jannati and Mohammad-Ali Movahedi Kermani. It was also noted that Mohammad Javad Zarif was not seen among the attendees.
