The World Health Organization is pressing countries to step up measles vaccination campaigns as reported case numbers continue to rise around the world. The agency says routine immunization programs need to be strengthened to prevent further spread of a disease that can be highly contagious and dangerous, especially for children.
WHO's warning comes as health officials in several regions work to contain outbreaks linked to missed or delayed vaccinations. Public health experts say gaps in coverage, health system strain, and misinformation have all contributed to the rebound in cases.
The agency is urging governments to improve access to vaccines, expand routine childhood immunization, and respond quickly when outbreaks appear. Health authorities also emphasize that sustained vaccination efforts are essential to protect communities and prevent avoidable illness and death.
As measles cases climb, the WHO says the focus should remain on practical prevention measures rather than emergency response alone. It wants countries to treat vaccination as a core public health priority before more outbreaks take hold.
