U.S. Central Command said on Sunday that Houthi forces fired an anti-ship ballistic missile from territory they control in Yemen toward the Red Sea. The U.S. military said the launch did not cause any reported damage.
The statement adds to a series of maritime attacks and warnings in the region as the conflict around the Red Sea continues to threaten shipping lanes and civilian safety. The Houthis, who control large parts of northern Yemen, have repeatedly launched missiles and drones in the area amid the wider Gaza war and regional tensions.
No ship strike or injuries were reported in the latest incident, according to CENTCOM. The military did not provide further details on the intended target or whether U.S. or allied forces intercepted the missile.
The escalation underscores the continuing risk to commercial traffic and the fragile security environment in one of the world’s most important waterways.
