🔶 Iran’s ambassador in China: Passing through the Strait of Hormuz will be subject to new fees Iran’s ambassador in China announced that ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz will be required to pay fees based on “new arrangements,” although special considerations are being taken into account for China and other “friendly countries.” Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli said on Sunday, June 5 (Tir 14) in the Global Peace Assembly in Beijing that Iran, in cooperation with Oman, is currently “developing new mechanisms” to manage this strategic waterway. He added: “As a country for which Hormuz is part of its territorial waters, we will undoubtedly receive services and therefore incur costs.” According to the Iranian ambassador, these arrangements include providing security for ship transit, monitoring maritime traffic, and managing the environmental consequences arising from the extensive passage of vessels. Rahmani Fazli also said: “Since the four-month war between the United States and Iran, this strait has become a security issue. The new arrangements related to the Strait of Hormuz will be carried out with the cooperation and participation of Oman.”
