China has sharply criticized recent joint military drills by the United States and the Philippines in the South China Sea, describing the exercises as a threat to regional stability. The comments add to long-running tensions over the disputed waterway, where rival territorial claims have fueled repeated standoffs.
According to Reuters, China’s foreign ministry said the drills were provocative. The exercises come as Washington and Manila continue to deepen security cooperation in response to China’s growing military pressure in the region.
The South China Sea remains one of Asia’s most volatile flashpoints. Several governments claim parts of the strategically important sea lane, and confrontations have frequently involved coast guard ships, patrols, and military vessels.
The latest dispute underscores how naval drills and force signaling continue to shape the security landscape in the region, with both sides accusing the other of escalating tensions.
